1. Who we are
GridNerd and the Texas Large Load Brief are published by STACHOLD GROUP LLC, a Wyoming limited liability company. For the purposes of data protection law, STACHOLD GROUP LLC is the data controller.

2. What we collect

We do not ask for, and have no use for, your name, employer, phone number, address, or payment details. If a future signup form asks an optional question (for example, what kind of work you do), it will say clearly that it is optional and what we do with the answer.
3. Email tracking and cookies
The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, and no third-party tracking script on gridnerd.com.
Emails are tracked. Like most newsletters, issues of the Brief contain a small
invisible image that records when a message is opened, and links are routed through
track.gridnerd.com so we can count clicks. This tells us aggregate things like "40% of
readers opened this issue" and "the Batch Zero link was the most clicked," and it is tied to your
subscriber record.
If you would rather not be tracked this way, most email clients let you block remote images, which prevents open tracking. You are welcome to read the Brief that way — it changes nothing about what you receive.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your email address with sponsors, advertisers, or any other third party for their own marketing. Sponsors of the Brief receive aggregate statistics only — never your address, and never a list.
We use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Buttondown — our newsletter platform. Stores the subscriber list and sends the Brief. Buttondown delivers mail through Postmark.
- Cloudflare — hosts the website and provides DNS, CDN, and email routing.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to — for example, in response to a valid subpoena or court order.
5. Where your data is held
Our providers are US-based and your information is processed in the United States. If you are reading from outside the US, subscribing means your data is transferred to and stored in the US.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, Buttondown retains a record of the unsubscribe so that we do not accidentally email you again — that is a legal requirement, not a loophole. If you ask us to delete you outright, we will remove your record entirely; you may then be re-added if you sign up again in future.
7. Your rights
Whoever and wherever you are, you can:
- Unsubscribe — one click, in the footer of every email.
- See what we hold — email us and we will tell you.
- Correct it — email us.
- Have it deleted — email us and we will delete your record.
If you are in the EU or UK, you additionally have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection under the GDPR / UK GDPR, and the right to complain to your local supervisory authority. Our lawful basis for sending you the Brief is your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by unsubscribing.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.

8. Children
GridNerd is a professional publication about energy regulation and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
9. Security
The site is served over HTTPS and subscriber data lives with established providers who maintain their own security programs. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but the practical exposure here is small, because the only thing we hold about you is an email address.
10. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we will say so in an issue of the Brief rather than quietly editing this page.
